Graphite fiber reinforced copper (GF/Cu) composites offer a combination of controllable coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) and high thermal conductivity. In conventional infiltration process for preparing GF/Cu composites, external force is usually called for to overcome the resistance of capillary force. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a pressure-less infiltration method, or called spontaneous infiltration, to fabricate GF/Cu composites. In the present work, alloying element of Cr is introduced to improve the wettability of Cu/graphite system. The wetting behavior of liquid Cu-Cr alloy on graphite substrate is investigated by a sessile drop method. According to the guidance of wetting experiment, GF/Cu composites are fabricated by spontaneous liquid infiltration using Cu-Cr alloy as matrix metal. |
