The cooling needs of electronics and computer industries for high-end applications have surpassed the capabilities of conventional methodologies. The conventional active cooling requires bulky and massive equipments. Mesophase pitch (MP) based graphite foams (GFs) exhibit isotropic material properties, leading to the formation of more isotropic and homogeneous composites in great contrast to those of typical 1- or 2-directional carbon fiber reinforced ones. Unfortunately, to the best of our knowledge, the preparation of high-density GFs has not received a systematic study. Let alone, there are few reports on the influencing factors of high-density GF/paraffin composites. In this work, high-density GFs were prepared by different methods, and then GF/paraffin composites were obtained to enhance the thermal diffusivity of paraffin. Microstructure of the obtained GFs and the corresponding composites were investigated. Factors influencing thermophysical properties of GFs, and factors influencing the thermal behaviors of GF/paraffin composites have been studied. |
