With fast increasing demand in liquid transportation fuels and limited petroleum resources, production of transportation fuels from by direct coal liquefaction (DCL) technology has been an important option to lessen the decline in petroleum supply, especially for China with fast economy development and limited petroleum reserves. However, the traditional direct coal liquefaction (DCL) technology need high investment to satisfy the requirement of the severe conditions[1,2]. Accordingly, Developing advanced coal liquefaction technology is one of the strategies for our nation’s sustainable development and energy security. Stepwise coal liquefaction process may be one of the effective and clean coal technologies. The idea is to convert the hydrogen-rich part of coal to coal liquids under mild liquefaction conditions first (partial liquefaction of coal) and then to convert the carbon-rich part of coal to oil through F-T synthesis. In this regard the coupling of the two coal liquefaction processes, from the view of the properties of the products, is important. It is common understanding that the reaction temperature has considerable influence on the level of coal conversion[3], it is desired to understand the variation of the coal liquefaction process and the characteristics of the heavy products, which are designated as raw materials for syngas, in detail. The effects of the temperature on liquefaction of HL lignite and the structure characteristics of the heavy products were presented in this presentation. |
