Carbon microspheres were hydrothermally synthesized from cyclodextrin (CD) and epichlorohydrin (EP) at 170–190 C. Their morphology, surface chemical groups and carbonization degree were characterized by SEM, FT-IR and Raman spectra. The results showed that their size and carbonization degree can be controlled by adjusting the molar ratio of CD to EP and the synthesis temperature and time. The carbon microsphere forming rate and yield were fasted and improved in presence of epichlorohydrin. The surface area and pore volume of carbon microsphere were less, but many carbon microsphere hydrophilic chemical groups (C O, –OH, C O) on carbon microsphere surface. They showed high adsorption capacities were 0.35 g/g and 0.21 g/g for formic acid and ammonia due to more hydrophilic chemical groups on carbon microsphere surface. |
