摘要: The study of coal swelling in solvent is a major research topic for the elucidation of the structure of the coal and the development of efficient and clean coal conversion technology. Utilization of coal pretreatment techniques, including thermal pretreatment and solvent extraction pretreatment, has been investigated to determine the effect of these procedures on the swelling behavior of coal in solvent. Pretreatment and swelling experiments have been carried out using bituminous coal Coal-1. The swelling ratio of a packed bed of coal particles in solvent was measured by a so-called linear variable differential transformer (LVDT) deformation transducer apparatus. Ethanol was used as swelling solvent in isothermal swelling experiment and pure tetralin (THN) was used as the test solvent in non-isothermal swelling experiment. For isothermal swelling experiment, the swelling isotherm of 150 oC char in ethanol coincided practically with raw coal. The swelling rate and ratio of 350 oC char in ethanol were lower than raw coal. No significant swelling in ethanol was observed for the char obtained by thermal treatment of Coal-1 at 550 oC. The results on the swelling of coals pre-extracted in tetrahydrofuran (THF) and n-hexane were shown that the THF-extracted coal in ethanol swelled faster and more significantly than raw coal, oppositely for the n-hexane-extracted coal. For non-isothermal swelling experiment, the changes of the swelling ratio of 150 oC chars in THN with temperature increased as the increase of the swelling temperature and peaked at 300 oC and were the same with raw coal. The swelling ratio of 350 oC chars in THN was lower than raw coal and peaked at 350 oC, higher 50 oC than raw coal. The effect of solvent extraction pretreatment on non-isothermal swelling experiment was similar with that in isothermal swelling experiment. The swelling ratio of the THF-extracted coal in THN was higher than raw coal and peaked at 300 oC. However, the swelling ratio of the n-hexane-extracted coal was lower than raw coal and peaked at 300oC.
