摘要: |
Incorporation of heteroatoms into carbon materials affects their structural characteristics. Boron is by far the most widely used doping element in carbon. Boron has been used to dope graphite, carbon/carbon composites, carbon fibers, glassy carbon and other carbon materials. It enters the graphite lattice by subistituting for carbon at the trigonal sites and consequently alters the electronic properties of the materials. In this work, Boron doping and graphitization of carbon fibers occurred simultaneously. The structural changes were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, 11B-NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results show that much better graphitization can be achieved for carbon fibers at low heat treatment temperature when boron-doping occurred. Boron changes the surface state and structure of carbon fibers after heating at 2200℃. A core-level X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis was used to determine the stoichiometries of the elements and boron concentration in the hexagonal carbon lattices according to the corresponding binding energies. The B-C bonding evident from the B1s signals results indicated that highly coordinated boron atoms replaced the carbon atoms within the grapheme sheet. |
